lyrics

It draws near.
The pacing more frantic—
The pounding insists.
Pulse driven by the countdown clock,
Heart wired to the ticking hand,
Planned in advance—
Every beat, every skip—
This is not chance.
You did not invent this.

And somewhere I shiver,
Locked in a fever mask
Of white vertigo and black voids...

I can't remember what I saw when—
Only the beat and the skip.

But you, you are made of single mind.
You lurch with each click—
Each tick: you jump.

It draws near
Near, too large it looms,

And yet,

You would not recognise the metaphor,
Even if I called it something else.
